Has anyone ever had a wrong turn experience that somewhat resembled the early part of a horror flick? What happened? More about mine (+video) after the break.
I know I've had one. Late last week I was in the middle of a road trip through the Alps. It was early in the evening, approaching dusk, and we were trying to locate our hotel. Apparently we had to go straight up a mountain on this tiny very narrow road. For a few dozen kilometers. It really was somewhat creepy yet interesting.
It turned out we didn't take a wrong turn, and actually did find our hotel, right at the top of the mountain. We didn't have the state of mind to record the way up, but we did film the descent the next morning. A trip with a much more benign atmosphere I must add.
Apologies for the video quality. It was recorded with a hand held phone from a moving vehicle and a low sun.

The view was worth it though. I took this panorama picture of the lake next to the hotel on top of the mountain, 15 minutes before our descent (notice the sun).

Right after I got my iPhone 5 I was using Apple Maps. Coming home from a small trip I missed a turn because some idiot was tailgating me on a 55mph road and the gps gave me the next turn update like 200 feet before my turn. I was in the middle of nowhere between two small towns at about 8-9pm maybe. Well, the road it re-routed me on was so small it didn't have a centerline. After about a mile the pavement ended and it was just gravel. I was on that for like four miles and expected to start hearing banjos at any point... Eventually it got me back to the right route thankfully. That was after Apple Maps had been unable to get me to a desired location after 3 tries earlier and then running me in circles when I started to come home.

That part where I drive across the Atlantic is going to get a little tricky.

Well — drove through Skid Row at night. Scary, but sad at the same time.

That's a glorious panorama photo. You might consider sharing it with the shutterbugs over on Photography .

It's a camera phone picture, the same one that recorded that blurry video. They'd stone me to death :)

Not at all. There are routinely posts of photos people took with mobile phones. I couldn't tell. It's the eye, not the equipment.

Yep, been there. I turned down a gravel road in Idaho that someone said would meet back up with highway... they didn't mention it was 3 hours of guessing turns on dirt.

I was visiting colleges with my mom during my senior year of high school. We ended up in the middle of rural New Hampshire at about midnight and realized we were running out of gas. We found the next exit and turned off the highway, expecting the usual conveniently placed gas station off pretty much every highway exit in New York. Several gut wrenching miles later, we came to realize that we were in a completely seasonal area with pretty much nothing around..and we were completely lost. Eventually we found what was quite possibly the sketchiest looking gas station possible and pulled in in the off chance they were still open. No one was around, but the pumps took credit cards so we thought we were good. At that point, two beat-up offroaders came tearing into the parking lot and stopped right in front of our car. At this point, my mom and I both prepared ourselves to become the next victims of The Boondock Slashers, so I armed myself with an ice scraper that happened to be lying nearby. I can only imagine how ridiculous I looked when one of the gentlemen asked me if I needed help getting the pump to work...

This has been nagging me all day... Could any turn that leads you to Eliza Dushku at the height of her hotness really be considered "wrong"?
BTW yes I know it was the name of a movie she starred in, but its still something to consider...

Not exactly a wrong turn, but my brother and I were poking around the DawsonState Forest in Georgia one time...
We were just driving around the dirt roads, maybe doing a bit of hooning and came across a big, windowless concrete building out in the middle of the woods. It was surrounded by an 8' barbed-wire topped fence with radiation warning signs.
Needless to say, we were a little freaked out. Turns out we'd stumbled across the remains of the Georgia Nuclear Aircraft Laboratory. Evidentally it was an unshielded reactor which would be raised out of the storage pool in that big building and exposed to the open air during operation. I know, the things we did, right?
